What is the Banner for when I logon on the computer?

A.   

This banner is simply a reminder to use the computer for business purposes and not for reasons that may be considered unacceptable or violate MarketFare Foods, Inc confidentiality or business and Information Systems Policies.

I am trying to open an e-mail attachment that that has the file extension JPG. I get an error message stating that there is no program associated with it. What should I do and how do I correct it.

A.   

The first thing you need to do is save the e-mail attachment to your U: Drive. Once saved navigate to the file using My Computer or the My Files shortcut on your desktop. Try to open the file again. If it does not open or you get the same error, right click the file. A pop-up context menu will be displayed. Select 'Open With' from this menu. You will get a list of programs. Scroll down and select either Internet Explorer, Imaging, or Windows NT Imaging.

I tried to create a document for an application that I do not have an icon for. I get an Access Denied or No File Associations message, Why is this and how do I correct it.

A.   

The document you are trying to create is for an application you do not have access to. Refer to the next question to get authorization.

When I try to create document for an application that I do not have an Icon on my desktop for I get one these messages:

The file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

You are trying to open a document with an application that you do not have access to.

Someone sent me an e-mail attachment, I can't open it. I get error messages similar to he ones listed above.

A.   

The e-mail attachment is for an application you do not have access to.

When on AllStars.MarketFareFoods.com in the Document of all types section when opening some folders I get the message "You have not been granted access to this folder." Why can't I get to that information.

A.   

The documents are for departmental specific information which you are not an Associate in that department.

Why do I need to enter a Username and Password to get on the Internet.

A.   

This is a computer security measure to help us protect our computer systems from viruses and other possible damage that may happen if a malicious web site is accidentally visited or a virus is downlaoded.

Why can't I change my home page.

A.   

In order to make sure timely material and information is received by all employees we may post it on Allstars.MarketFareFoods.com. If you do not see this web page on a regular basis you may miss it. You can put your desired home page as a favorite to avoid typing the URL every time you want to visit it. Also when you see information posted please pass it on to Associates that may not have access to a computer.

What are the Task Bar icons at the bottom right of my screen.

A.   

Unplug or Eject Hardware - You may not see this icon. This icon is for administrators to add new or remove old hardware from the server. Using it will have no affect on hardware or operations of the server. You may use this icon to see what type of drives and other hardware are in the computer.

Profile Storage Space - This icon will warn you when you have saved to many item on your desktop or the M: drive. When you log off the computer the saved items are synchronized to your U:. When you see this message you need to copy files from your desktop to your U: drive. You are allowed a maximum of 30Meg of data in your profile. You will be notified when you reached this limit.

Why are there only a few icons in Control Panel.

A.   

The icons in control panel are the ones used to change your user environment. Icons you see on other computers that are not listed have been removed to help prevent accidental system configuration changes.

Why can't I bring up task manger by right clicking the task bar and how do I get to task manager now.

A.   

 The settings for Task Bar have been removed to help prevent accidental user environment changes. To get in Task Manager either press CTRL+ALT+DEL or open Start Menu - Setting- Windows Security then click Task Manager.

Why can't I set wallpaper or view the computer clock?

A.   

The wall paper and clock have been removed to help optimize system performance and response.

Q.   

Were should I save my files?

A.   

Save files to your U: drive. Files saved in other places may not be backed up each night. Locations other than your U: drive, Department Folders on the network and SharedAccess should be considered volatile save points and may not be accessible all the time.

How do I change my default file save location in Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Publisher?

The user next to me has access to an application that I don't, Why? And how do I get access to the application?

A.   

Some application have restricted access determined by job position requirements or software licensing. If you need access to an application you may need authorization by you department manager. Even with authorization you may not be granted access based on software licensing requirements.

Were are my files saved to?

A.   

If you save your files to your U: Drive they will be on the respective server under your logon name. Otherwise only you would know exactly were you saved files to.

What server am I connected to?

A.   

Right Click My Computer and then select the Network Identification Tab. Look at Full computer name.

Q.   

I am left handed, how do I switch my mouse buttons so I can use my index finger as the primary mouse button.

A.   

Open Control Panel, select Mouse.

Passwords

I changed my password and now I can't get on the internet.

A.   

Your password has been saved in the Internet logon window. Type your new password and re-save it in the Internet logon  Window.

I changed my password, now I can't get in to Ross.

A.   

On the Ross logon window you will need to change the password.

Q.   

How do I change my password before I am prompted to change it?

A.   

Either press CTRL+ALT+DEL or open Select Start Menu - Setting- Windows Security then click Change Password.

Why can't I access Documents of all types from my home computer?

A.   

Information contained in Documents of all types may be confidential and reveal trade secrets that should not be revealed to the general public or competitors. Fo these reasons we do not allow access from outside the company.

How do I reduce or stop SPAM and UCM (Unsolicited Commercial Mail)?

A.

Don't give your e-mail address to unknown parties.
Don't subscribe to shopping services or e-mail newsletters.
Don't use your e-mail address when logging in to web sites.

Don't unsubscribe from SPAM that you do get. Doing so will remove you from that list but will verify a valid e-mail address for the spammer. The spammer will then sell your address to others. They will then spam you. Un-subscribing has the shampoo effect. The spammer will tell two people, who will tell two people, who will tell two people, etc...
